First we went hiking at Ijams Nature Center - a nice little nature preserve with a great boardwalk trail along the river. The kids only had their Crocs, but they did amazingly well on the hike without complaining. Pete and I were a bit hot in our jeans, but tried to set a positive example for the kids!

Tennessee - First Day
After the hectic start to our year - getting pregnant, learning we were moving to Beaumont, getting the house ready to sell, moving... We realized we were running out of time to plan a summer vacation! We love going to National Parks, so we put together a trip around visiting the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee. When we arrived late Friday night, our bags hadn't made it! We had to adjust our plans for our first day, and spend some time exploring Knoxville while we waited for them to find our luggage.

Then we went to the World's Fair park and found an awesome splash pad/fountain. The kids didn't have their suits but we convinced them it would be ok to play in their undies!
Finally, we wandered around a great little open air market, had lunch in a brewery, and drove by the University of Tennessee stadium, before finally getting the call that our bags had arrived. All in all it turned out to be a great day, even if we had to get a bit creative due to lack of supplies!
